Are you losing 9/10 of your online customers?

January 12, 2010

A study undertaken by online marketing company Amaze in association with the University of Glasgow has revealed that 9 out of 10 online shoppers abandon the shopping cart or checkout on ecommerce and online retail sites before they complete it.

It’s a staggering proportion and the report has identified three reasons why. 42% of customers wanted more information or wanted to think over the purchase. Another 42% found the postage costs off-putting or found the product cheaper elsewhere. 16% were dubbed “window shoppers” and had no intention of buying in the first place.

The full report can be found here. But what it reminds online sellers is that there is always an opportunity to enhance your processes and improve your conversion rates. Clearer information and better messaging on your website could help you get more customers. Even small changes, it would seem, can make a massive difference.

Blogging Boosts SEO

November 2, 2009

Lots of people talk about blogging as a good thing for small firms to do. But what can small businesses gain from keeping a blog? A recent study has shown that businesses that blog get 55% more traffic to their websites than those firms that dont blog. Even more remarkably they get many more links in to their site from other sources and also more of their web pages are indexed by search engines such as Google. This should hardly be surprising. A blog humanises your business online offering a real face and voice to what can otherwise seem a rather disembodied marketing channel. Interesting, thought-provoking and even controversial posts give customers and other visitors something to respond to. Theyre more likely to relate to blog content rather than general marketing material. At last, were able to quantify the benefits of blogging in a meaningful business benefit way. Are you ready to embrace blogging as a marketing tool?
